Our Story
How did St annes kitesurfing club start?
Kitesurfing has been taking place at St Annes for over 2 decades with former and current world champions Hannah Whitley and her dad Pete making it their home spot.
From changing on the side of the road we moved into the building that originally saw life as the Sand Yacht Centre, then Trax Windsports and now the home of Sand Yachters and Kite surfers.
The club formed with 12 committed individuals and, working with the council sports development officer, had a vision to turn the disused building into a centre of excellence for kitesurfing. Fylde Borough Council approached ourselves as the sport became more popular and we all wanted the sport to be developed safely with showers, changing rooms and no more standing on the side of the road in winter!
Once the covid bans were lifted we had over 100 kite surfers on the first good wind weekend. The council knew it was time to develop St Annes into a world-class destination.
The Beachcomber café and Windpsort Centre was formerly opened on 2nd December 2022.
